He served as the command pilot for the Gemini 6A mission in 1966.
The Gemini 6A mission was the first space rendezvous between two spacecraft.
McCullough and his crew successfully docked with the Gemini 7 spacecraft, which had been launched two days earlier.
The Gemini 6A mission was a major success, and it paved the way for the Apollo program.
McCullough also served as the commander of the Apollo 14 mission in 1971.
